Huskies Rout Penn State Hazleton in Women's Basketball

HAZLETON--Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to power the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 72-28 win over Penn State Hazleton on Saturday.

The Huskies used a smothering defense and some hot shooting to jump out to a 10-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game with Kegerreis netting six of those points. Bloomsburg made it a 15-1 game at the 14:13 mark on a basket by Brea Lewis (Philadelphia/Frankford), before the Huskies used a 19-4 run to make it s 29-point advantage, 34-5, with 6:35 to play in the half. Overall, in the opening half, Bloomsburg shot 57 percent from the floor (20-35) and forced 19 turnovers by Penn State Hazleton.

In the second half, Bloomsburg continued to force turnovers and take advantage of some hot shooting and twice had leads of 46 points.

Joining Kegerreis in double figures was Shameika Christian (Pittsburgh/Mercyhurst Northeast) with 10 points, while everyone on the roster scored at least two points.

Penn State Hazleton was led by Ashley Kessell with 14 points, while Stephanie Halliday grabbed 12 rebounds.

Bloomsburg is idle till December 18 when the Huskies host Shippensburg at 5:30 p.m.
